Parking lots for ladies only

In conjunction with Celebrate Women on the month of March, I chanced upon yesterday’s The Straits Times reporting on parking lots just for the ladies. At first, I thought why so biased? As I googled ‘parking lots for the female drivers only’, it returned a link from Natives.Co.UK – News at the top of the search engine page that made me snickered.

Joke - Women Only car park

Are women drivers that bad? C’mon! Cut some slack!

Jokes aside but there are reasons as to why commercial buildings implemented the change. I guess it well served for countries where crime rates at parking lots are dangerously high especially when women have been victimized to public sexual assaults.

Anyway, check out this ladies-only lots at Furama Riverfront Hotel Singapore!

Pink conspicuously painted parking lotsĀ  and it states there, “FOR LADIES ONLY”. If it’s pink and it’s for women only, no doubt it will get the media’s attention.

Citing from the article by Alessa Pang from The Straits Times:

Ms Daphne Sim, assistant marketing communications manager at Furama, said: ‘The location is convenient and they only have to walk up the ramp to reach the entrance to the hotel lobby.’

She added: ‘It is also less tiring for women, especially when they are in heels.’

And if a man decides to park in the pink lot, ‘we just tell him nicely that they are meant for ladies only’, Ms Sim said.

I say Daphne needs to leave all media comments to the Public Relations manager because she just gave the impression that the hotel is biased. It’s all over the print and internet circulation, baby! Daphne is lucky if she still gets to keep her job.
