Music Review: Never Say Never by The Fray

Music Review: Never Say Never by The Fray

A short one: I think acoustic piano songwriters/singers always get my attention whenever their song hits the radio. It’s the distinct connection between a singer and his piano combined to become the song to his poetry. I like it live and unedited, without any additional beats because that’s how I like it – able to appreciate the real stuff.

In this song, there’s an honest truth about something so blissful yet the most hurtful. I think this song was beautifully put together although the tune, lyrics and rhythm portrayed a glum mood.

Isaac Slade (vocalist) sang it quite perfectly at the right pitching – not too wailing and yet not too solemn – from a person who has been deeply hurt and expressed his emotions outright. The xylophone tunes at the background completes the song and making it magical altogether.

This song reminds me of those times when I was separated by my dream. Regretted – no matter how hard I tried to mend things back, it wasn’t the same now.  Moving on!

Lyrics by Lyricsmode.com:

There’s some things we don’t talk about
Rather do without
And just hold the smile
Falling in and out of love
Ashamed and proud of
Together all the while

You can never say never
Why we don’t know when
Time and time again
Younger now than we were before

Don’t let me go
Don’t let me go
Don’t let me go
[x2]

Picture you’re the queen of everything
As far as the eye can see
Under your command
I will be your guardian
When all is crumbling
Steady your hand

You can never say never
Why we don’t know when
Time, time and time again
Younger now then we were before

Don’t let me go
Don’t let me go
Don’t let me go
[x2]

We’re pulling apart and coming together again and again
We’re growing apart but we pull it together
Pull it together, together again

Don’t let me go
Don’t let me go
Don’t let me go
[x4]

Music Review: Glass by Gavin Degraw

Music Review: Glass by Gavin Degraw

Anybody who knows me will know that I’ll die hard for Gavin DeGraw. I have subscribed to his fan page on Facebook to keep myself updated of his latest quirky video and music postings. I have posted countless messages to Gavin’s website/Facebook/iLike player application asking him to come to Singapore to perform live. Rather, I dream that one day I’d be carefree enough to fly to the West to watch one of his concerts live in person.

Glass, from his latest album titled Free which was released March 31, did not fail to mesmerize me once again with his emotional lyrics and down-beat piano tunes. His voice is effortless and has the unique Gavin DeGraw identity you can never be mistaken.

The lyrics, I can never emphasize this enough that I felt connected to it as if I live and breathe the song in my surrounding. I gave my standing ovation to Gavin DeGraw for his talent and his music that has put this latest song a place in my heart.

Here is the video:

Here are the lyrics:

Fool you made the girl fall in love
you said those beautiful things
she thought you spoke things you mean

Caress her skin like it’s glass
she hears your voice making plans
and she just breaks in your hands

You don’t wanna see somebody beg
as you feel her heart surrender
you begin to fall
How do you say that something’s through
when it never even started
at least not for you

You breathe her air and you leave
you keep your mind on yourself
and lie the glass on the shelf
After the heavenly speech
your body throws holy heat
the angels sing when our eyes meet

It wasn’t a lie but it wasn’t true
I just wanted to make you feel good
just wanted you near
I wasn’t prepared I wasn’t thinking of you
that you could actually love me
it never should have started

She’s dreaming back on the past
every opinion agreed
doesn’t know what to believe

It must have been for a cause
our lives have so many doors
don’t think about him anymore

But it was the kiss, it took me away
it’s like he knew that I am fragile
he handled me like glass
and it hurts but it’s what I deserve
because I should have been more careful
with the others that I handled
I should have been
I should have been
and knowing this I know
that he’ll get his
but I don’t want the man to suffer
oh not the way I am
because deep down I know that he’s glass too
but it really doesn’t matter
until it’s happening to you
everybody breaks
everybody breaks
sometimes
