Laura Fygi, me and Malayan tapirs

I heard…. The one month old Malayan tapir, Victoria, has recently been housed at the Singapore Zoo!!!

Below is the picture from Los Angeles Times/L.A. Unleashed:

Isn’t she dumb cute? It has teddy bear-like ears with rhino-like body and short version of the elephant-like snout.

What I like about the Malayan tapir when I visited the Singapore Night Safari is that they appear as calm animals and they feed on vegetation. I learn that their species are generally shy and avoids confrontation. They’d prefer to hide or submerge in water until the threat is over.

What’s most intriguing is the color black and white of the Malayan Tapir’s coat. Its base coat is black but its back has this white saddle-like coat. The kind of saddle you put on a horse for a ride. Yeah, and if you’re thinking like what I’m thinking now, I think of Michael Jackson singing, “It’s Black , It’s White, Whoo!”

Here’s a shot of me and a Malayan tapir (poster) at the Night Safari, although I wish I were up close with one like Laura Fygi:
