Not a typical Friday for me. I am happy to be on leave from work. I headed to The Singapore River with Ady, Atiqah and Alaina in the evening to check out what’s the “hoo-hah” about Singapore Food Festival this year. Singapore Food Festival is an annual event, started since 1994, profiling Singapore’s diverse offerings of local and international food. Along the stall tentages, I spotted quite a number of patrons dressed in the Baba & Nonya costume. All were looking traditionally dazzling and beautiful – I was mesmerized by the beauty of a lady wearing a gray top and bright pink sarong. I’m awed by the colors of her outfit that complemented beautifully on her fair complexion. Well, too bad I wasn’t fast enough to snap a photo of her.
We entered the huge tentage where the food stalls were. The four of us spent $10 each and we bought Thye Hong’s prawn noodle, Casuarina’s Banana Prata, a plate of chili crab (cost $14!) and kebab. Sadly, the food wasn’t quite special than we expected – Alaina knows there are better tasting chilli crabs out there and pointed to JUMBO @ Boat Quay. Apart from that, Atiqah discovered hair (!!?) in the kebab and Ady complained that the chicken in it was medium rare (!). At least I’m contented with my Banana Prata – huge portion (worth my $3/piece), plenty of fresh cut banana, crispy on the outside and hot in the inside. The best of all, my Banana Prata had caramel drizzle on top of it (yum!). We made a bunch of friends who are from U.S. They came here four weeks ago on their summer break holiday supposedly doing research and sight-seeing. Our new friends are Shin Sze, JerryAnnie (I think) and another girl (sorry, I can’t recall at the top of my mind now). We got along well with each another and I shared a portion of my Banana Pizza with Shin Sze!
Discovering food wasn’t so fantastic, we headed next to Tangs at Orchard Road – without Alaina (went home early, blisters on both feet). We were there for the Blogathon event. Blogathon event is a Tangs and Lenovo collaboration and was run by Ogilvy (Singapore). Blogathon puts together the top 10 participating bloggers in Singapore (ranked by Ogilvy’s 360 digital influence team) to blog for 24 hours, starting today, July 17, 1800 hrs. At the end of the event, they will have 2 winners to bring home a Lenovo IdeaPad U350 and up to $500 Tangs and Kiehls vouchers each. I was there with Atiqah and Ady to see what’s going on. The ten bloggers were still looking fresh, energetic and smiley… I wonder if they could maintain that in a couple more hours later…?
It’s 5:20am now and I’m not competing with them neither will I stay any longer online. Gotta catch up with my sleep. Write tomorrow!
Oh! Oh! Atiqah will check them out on Saturday. Will she catch any sleepyheads…?
